Each player is the owner of a water zoo. Each player tries to lure as many visitors as possible into his water zoo and earns points for the visitors that visit his zoo. To create a zoo that people want to visit, a player must collect animals. When a players water zoo is successful, he may want to expand it. When a players animal basins are full, he must place additional animals into his depot, which loses him points at game end. When a player makes skillful use of his coworkers, he can gain additional points. The player with most points wins. |
 Cuba: El Presidente[RGG 391] Rio Grande Games
The expansion to be used by 'Cuba'. An additional game board, more and different ship cards, laws, buildings, new character cards to be used with the other characters, and a whole new phenomenon: Cuba - the Arrival of the President! In their turn, players may take and play a character from the 'El Presidente' board: the worker, dancer, attorney, warden, revolutionist or musician. They all have different effects. The worker acts as a warehouse; all your goods are safe this turn. The revolutionist gives you one victory point, the musician two money. The player with the dancer card becomes start player.
With the attorney a player may use a building even when his supervisor is not on the row or column of this building. The warden may change two adjacent ships in position. There is a mule card that is used when playing with less than four players; this card cannot be chosen. When all players have chosen a card, the car of the president moves to the position of the remaining card; remember, there are five cards that each turn are shuffled and randomly placed in the window of this board.
Under each card on the board are symbols that come into effect when the car of the president stops here. The first makes all law proposals go into effect; the second makes it possible to move the supervisor anywhere on a player board. Or the next round makes it possible to pay one money and overbuild a building with another; the difference in cost must be paid as well. Or it could be that the leading player goes back two points on the score track, or at the market wares can be bought at discount prices. Players now must not only consider of which role they would like to take, but also which position they likely want to be visited by the president - and which not.
The new laws can be used in conjunction with the old ones, or used as a new set. The game now lasts 8 rounds instead of just 6. |
 Space Alert[RGG 392] Rio Grande Games
It is a team survival game: a type of cooperative game. Players become crew members of a small spaceship scanning dangerous sectors of galaxy. The missions last just 10 minutes (hyperspace jump, sector scan, hyperspace jump back) and the only task the players have is to protect their ship.
On 2 CDs (or Scenario cards if you don't have a CD player available) are ten minutes long soundtracks that represent central computer announcements about the presence of various threats. These vary from space battleships and interceptors to different interstellar monsters and abominations, asteroids or even intruders and malfunctions on the spaceship. Players have to agree who will take care of which task and coordinate their actions (moving around the ship, firing weapons, distributing energy, using battlebots to deal with intruders, launching guided missiles etc.) in real time to defend the ship. Only a well-working team can survive 10 minutes and make the jump back to safety.
The game offers several difficulty levels, huge variability and a unique experience for two to five player teams. One mission lasts only about 30 minutes, including setup and evaluation. |
 Children of Carcassonne[RGG 388] Rio Grande Games
On 14 July, the national holiday in France, the sheep, chickens and cows are set free in the town of Carcassonne. The children have lots of fun catching the animals before dusk.
The players in turn draw a landscape tile and place it; unlike in normal Carcassonne, they always match. Amongst other features, the tiles show children in the player colors on the roads. Whenever a road is finished, every player places one of his meeples on each appropriate picture. The first player who manages to place all of his meeples wins the game.

Tigers in the Snow
Hot on the heels of their success in Operatsiya Bagration, Soviet forces struck deep towards the Baltic coast, rapidly severing communications between German Army Group North and what little was left of Army Group Center.
By early October 1944, the Soviets were in view of the Baltic Sea, near the port of Memel, definitively cutting off Army Group North from any retreat route through East Prussia.
Despite Guderian's plea for an evacuation by sea and subsequent redeployment in Central Europe where forces were desperately needed to help stabilize an increasingly dicey situation, Hitler stubbornly refused.
Instead, he ordered the 200,000+ German troops to entrench themselves, in the hope of using the Courland Pocket as a springboard for a future offensive.
Operation Market Garden
The largest airborne operation of all time, Operation Market Garden was a bold attempt by Field Marshal Montgomery to drop three entire Airborne Divisions behind the enemy lines, in German occupied Netherlands.
Their tactical objective: To capture and hold all the major water crossings along a narrow 60-mile stretch of highway and into northern Germany.
